How to set up a residents' association

If there are no residents' association in your area, why not set one up? Acting as a group gives people a greater voice about local issues, helps organisations to communicate with residents and can strengthen community spirit. Steps to setting up a residents' association include:

talk to people in the area to find out if they are interested
consider whether the group will tackle one specific issue or a range of issues
decide which area you will cover
consider the skills required to help the group achieve its goals
elect a committee
agree a constitution
organise publicity to tell people about the group
let Spelthorne Borough Council know so that you can be invited to residents' meetings

There is some good information online on setting up a Residents Association, eg Ealing Council and The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea
