How to set up a residents' association

If there are no residents' association in your area, why not set one up?  Acting as a group gives people a greater voice about local issues, helps organisations to communicate with residents and can strengthen community spirit.  Steps to setting up a residents' association include:

  • talk to people in the area to find out if they are interested
  • consider whether the group will tackle one specific issue or a range of issues
  • decide which area you will cover
  • consider the skills required to help the group achieve its goals
  • elect a committee
  • agree a constitution
  • organise publicity to tell people about the group
  • let Spelthorne Borough Council know so that you can be invited to residents' meetings

There is some good information online on setting up a Residents Association,  eg  Ealing Council  and The  Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea

If you are a housing association tenant, the association will be able to help you in getting more involved on your estate
